High-Quality Pork Expert Roundtable: Innovation in Diseases and Solutions

As part of our High-Quality Pork ’20 Seminars series on the evolution of the swine industry, MSD Animal Health, a division of Merck & Co., Inc., Kenilworth, N.J., USA, is hosting a live-streaming expert roundtable about some of the most common gastrointestinal problems in global swine production, including Lawsonia intracellularis.

Lawsonia intracellularis is a bacterium that causes ileitis, a gastrointestinal disease characterized by diarrhea, loss of daily weight gain, intestinal lesions, bacterial shedding and mortality. Ileitis significantly affects growth and development, resulting in major economic loss for the swine industry around the world.

Expert panel members participating in the roundtable include:

  • Dr. John Pluske, post-doctoral agricultural scientist, College of Science, Health, Engineering, and Education, Murdoch University (AUS)
  • Dr. Fabio Vannucci, assistant professor, food animal pathologist, College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Minnesota (USA)
  • Dr. Heiko Nathues, head of clinical for swine and professor of pig medicine, Vetsuisse Faculty of the University of Bern (CH)
  • Dr. Mirjam Arnold, resident ECPHM, assistant veterinarian, Department for Clinical Veterinary Medicine, University of Bern (CH)
  • Dr. Ton Jacobs, R&D principal scientist, MSD Animal Health (NL)

The roundtable, taking place on September 30 at 2:00 PM GMT+2 / 8:00 AM EDT / 8:00 PM GMT +8, will be conducted in English with simultaneous live translation in Spanish, Chinese, Portuguese, and Russian.
